Technically I am an ordained minister. But it’s through one of those online churches that exists just to allow people to officiate weddings. Becoming a minister literally took less than 60 seconds. A text conversation with my friend trying to organize her wedding went like this:β
β
Her: Hey, I know you do lots of random stuff, but do you happen to be a minister able to officiate weddings?β
Me: No, I’m not.β
Me: No wait. Now I am.β
Her: Cool, you’ve got the job.β
β
And regarding the CHEAP weddings. Well, I’ve officiated two weddings in my life and they both HAPPENED to be extremely beautiful yet low cost weddings. β
β
The first wedding (left picture) was a small ceremony held atop one of the tallest hills in San Diego overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Mission Bay, downtown, and sweeping views. We all went to dinner afterwards. It was a blast.β
β
The second wedding I officiated was for my best friend. He sent the invites out via “evite”. What I’m about to say is the absolute truth: While he and I were driving to the wedding ceremony he kept making me pull over so he could jump out and secure a venue for the reception and his 50+ guests. And this was on Kauai that probably doesn’t have a suitable venue for that on the entire island. But he figured it out. A local restaurant let us take over half their small place, without nearly enough chairs for everyone. β
β
And guess what. Both the weddings were magical, fun, memorable, exciting and successful! I’ve never lost a patient as both couples are still married (with two kids each!) They also had an absolute rock star officiant, who frankly has a future waiting for him in stand up comedy.β
β
So remember, your wedding can be whatever you want. Don’t feel the need to spend the $30,000 US average. It probably won’t make for any more of a memorable or joyful event.β
β
As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.β
