If we think inflation at the grocery store is bad, the cost of a 30 second ad at the Super Bowl has skyrocketed. It’s one of the few events that get a TON of people watching live. So, if you want your commercial to be seen by millions of people, you have pay the big bucks!
We highlighted some extreme examples of companies that paid millions for an ad and then went on to implode (and trust me, there are many more that could have been included in this chart that went belly up shortly after paying millions for an ad). But, there are obviously many other companies that have advertised in the Super Bowl and have’t declared bankruptcy.
What’s the main takeaway for you? If you happen to see Tom Brady or Matt Damon or any other celebrity promoting some financial platform, it’s probably all hype and you should run the other direction (this is a safe rule to follow throughout the year, not just Super Bowl Sunday!).
