How much is spent celebrating Halloween?

Happy Halloween!! The amount spent to celebrate halloween is estimated to be up 15% from last year. That’s largely due to the price of candy, which has been shooting up in price. (this is due to sugar prices rising at a much faster pace than overall inflation).

The average person who celebrates halloween spends $108. Remember, the amount of money you spend and the fun you have are rarely correlated. Spending hundreds of dollars on a costume or wearing a hand-me-down won’t drive how much you enjoy yourself. Sometimes you spend nothing and it’s a blast if you are with the right people.

When looking at your budget, it may be tempting to think that spending too much money on Halloween candy is your problem. But the reality is whether you spend $10 or $50 on candy once a year, that’s likely not going to be what keeps you from retiring early (it may mean more trips to the dentist if you eat it all though). It’s the large ticket items, like your house or car, that can make a huge difference in your overall budget.

As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.
